About “The Puketapu”
As the History page mentions “The Puketapu” was established in 1885. The Bar and Restaurant have come along way since then. The Puketapu was nominated and later won the Hawkes Bay Hospo awards for “Traditional Pub of the year” in 2011. To quote Food Hawkes Bay, “The Hospitality Awards are FOR the industry BY the industry. Over the last two months industry workers, owners, chefs, waiters, bartenders, baristas, suppliers and sales rep’s have nominated and then voted for who they think is the MOST OUTSTANDING in the 15 award categories”.
As the Hawkes Bay Hospo award suggests, The Puketapu has become renowned for its fine cuisne and atmosphere. We pride ourselves in providing high qualit meals at a reasonable price in a relaxed charming atmosphere.
In 2011 The Puketapu was invited to join DB’s Classic Kiwi Pub network. Where the best of the past meets the best of the present. In DB’s words “These iconic watering holes match excellent beer and delicious food with friendly service and a character that’s all their own. All you need to do is stop by, soak up the atmosphere and have a damn good time”.
